Installation & Set-Up for Wusage...

The following pages will lead you through the installation and set-up process to get your copy of the stats reporting program "Wusage" installed and running on your computer.

Please note that, in the interest of simplicity, these instructions are written to download, install, and configure Wusage to check the statistical information for a single web site.

If you have more than one account and/or web site Wusage can still be used to create the usage reports, but requires a little more intensive configuration.  Please contact me directly for this configuration.  We will get your copy set-up on a one-to-one basis.  Simply contact me at:

IMPORTANT!!  IMPORTANT!!  IMPORTANT!!

There are two types of web hosting accounts, IP Number-Based and Name-Based accounts.  You must first determine which type account your site utilizes.  The configurations instructions are slightly different for each.  If your web site is listed below,
your account is a NAMED-BASED account. Install and configure Wusage according to the instructions listed below and then call for Tech Support (305) 295-9613.  We must make a simple manual change to the program configuration to make Wusage run properly.

IP Number-Based accounts should be able to configure their stats program as written below.

PC Instructions: [hopefully a Mac version to soon follow]

Downloading the Wusage Installation File:
You first must download the installation file "wusagedl.exe" [<-- you can click the file name to download it if you have not already done so].  When you click the link to download the file you will be presented with a window titled "File Download." Click the SAVE button to continue.  A window titled "Save As" will open.

This window displays the locations on your local hard drive and allows you to select where to download and save the Wusage installation file.  The easiest location to save the download file is to your "DESKTOP."  Hit the "DOWN ARROW" to the right of the box titled "Save in:" and select "DESKTOP."  This will not only save the file to your "DESKTOP" but automatically install an icon on your "DESKTOP" linked to the downloaded file.  We will use this icon to install Wusage later in the process.  After selecting "DESKTOP", click the "SAVE" button.  This will start the downloading process.

Another window will open showing the progress of the file as it is downloaded.  This window may simply disappear when the download process is complete or another window may appear stating that the downloading is complete [it depends on how you have configured your browser].  If you do get the final window station downloading is complete click the "CLOSE" button to close this window.  The downloading process is completed.

Installation of the Wusage Program on Your Computer:
Close all Windows' programs that are running on your computer.  Double click the icon on your "DESKTOP" that is linked to Wusage from the download process.  This new icon will have the title "wusagedl.exe" under it.  Double clicking this icon starts the installation procedure.  The installation process is automated for the most part.  Basically click "YES" or "OK" for any questions it asks you in the process.  It is your option to say "YES" as whether or not you want the install program to add Wusage to your "STARTUP" menu.  This means that Wusage will be automatically started everything you start-up Windows. It is not imperative that Wusage is run this way, you can always start Wusage from your "START BUTTON" --> "PROGRAMS" or from an icon on your "DESKTOP", but you have to put this icon on your "DESKTOP", the installation program does not do it for you.

Wusage is now installed on your machine and ready for configuration.

Configuring Wusage to Access Your Account to Collect Your Stats Logs:
Wusage uses an "FTP" system to connect to your web account, go to the usage logs files that are collect by your account, download this information to your hard drive, analyze these log files, and finally create web site style pages to displays the statistical reporting of the usage of your web site by surfers.

Start the Wusage program, either from the  "START BUTTON" --> "PROGRAMS" or from the icon on your "DESKTOP" if you have created one.  You will be greeted with a welcome screen.  Click on the "SIMPLE" option listed on this page.

Step One in configuring Wusage is to tell it where the log files are located on the server for your web site account.  Click the "BROWSE LOG FILES" button.  In the next window click the "REMOTE FTP or HTTP" button.

In next window we will enter your specific account information.  In the text box titled "FTP or HTTP Site" enter your "FTP" server name.  This is on your account information sheet that was sent to you at the time your account was created.  If you can not find this sheet now, basically your "FTP" server site is:

ftp.yourdomain.com
[Example: for Key West CyberWorks =  ftp.kwcyberworks.com]

In the text box titled "FTP or HTTP User" enter your account username.  In the text box titled "FTP or HTTP Password" enter your account password.  Leave the text box titled "FTP or HTTP Directory or File" blank.  Click the "OPEN FTP" button.

In the next window your will see a listing of the folders in your server account.  Click on "var" folder name to highlight and click the "OK" button.  In the next window click on the "log" folder name to highlight and click the "OK" button.  And finally in the next window click on the "httpd" folder name to highlight, BUT this time click on the button labeled "Select this Directory"

In the next window, edit the sample domain name in the text box "www.CHANGEME.com" to your domain name, i.e. www.kwcyberworks.com, etc. etc.  Click the "NEXT STEP!" button to continue.

The next window allows you to configure what time periods you want stats analyzed and report to you.  I suggest you "check" them all...  Then click on the "NEXT STEP!" button to continue.

If all has gone well the next window should read "Wusage is ready for use!"  Wuasge has been properly configured to begin reporting the statistical information on who, what, where, when, and how people are using your web site.  Click the "CONTINUE" button.  This will take you to the "MAIN CONTROL PAGE" to begin using Wusage.

To get the necessary log files from your account to create a stats report, click on the "UPDATE STATISTICS NOW" button.  A window will appear displaying the progress being made in this information transfer.  Depending on your connection speed, this transfer can take some time the first time it is run.  Patience, everything comes to (s)he who waits...

Upon completion of the stats "UPDATE" a window will display a summary of the files collected and analyzed.  It will also present you with two buttons, one to take you back to the "MAIN CONTROL Page" the other is a "VIEW STATISTICS NOW", click this button if clicking the "OK" button.  A window will appear advising you that it is opening your web browser, click the "OK" button.  Your web browser will then open [sometimes behind the Wusage program...] with all the statistical information collected available for viewing through your web browser.  Explore the various report modes, I think you will be very pleased.

From here on the "Web Server Statistics" page displayed in your web browser should be relatively self-explanatory after you click-through the menu options.

Now that you have the Stats Program up and running all you need is the Registration Key to unlock the software from a demo version to a fully operational status.  Click the link below to notify me you are ready for this key to be sent to you:

I Have downloaded Wusage, I Need the Registration Key!

Also of note is the link for the operating manual for this software.  RTFM applies! [Read The Friggin Manual].
Click here to view this Manual.  Heaven help those who need help and the answer is on the first page of the manual...

Of course, what can go wrong will so any problems please contact me.  I beg your patience in getting this stats reporting going.  Understand it is a major project to get everyone running smoothly.  Just getting a decent stats software package has been harder than parting the Red Sea, but looks like we have reached a very good solution to get the stats into the hands of the people who need them.
